The Spanish Balah El Sham
I guess each one of us loves "Balah el sham". Who doesn't love Balah el sham?.
But, today I will let you explore a dessert that is considered the Egyptian Balah el sham which is the famous "Churros".
Churros is like a fried dough that was first created in Spain and Portugal. Many people thought that churros was an American invention but, they are wrong as Churros were introduced to South America during the Spanish inquisition in the 1500s until now we can say that New York makes the best churros in the world but still not as same as the Spanish churros because when the Spanish people came back from Europe, they returned with cocoa that was made into the best dip for the Churros.
Well, churros has a complex history and a mix of origins. It is said that Churros has a Spanish origin but many people said that it was first created in China as there is a demon was fried in oil called "YouTiao" and it was a typical breakfast dish in a nation that has a lot of fried dough so by that they created the Churros.
While the other half say that it was created by the Spanish shepherds and they didn't have any access to bread or pastries so, they decided to mix some eggs with flour and they created the Churros to be instead of the bread. But, What is Churros and why was it named like that?.
Churros was named like this because it was similar to the horns of the Spanish Churra sheep.
I tried Churros many times while I was travelling and I can tell you that each country makes it in her own special way but, I liked it the most in Egypt in a well known restaurant in Alexandria and when I asked about it, they told me that one of the chefs travelled to Spain to get the original recipe and let me tell you guys it was something special.
Anyways, Let me tell you the recipe of how to make the best Churros. All you need:
-1 cup of flour
-1 teaspoon of baking powder
-pinch of salt
-1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
-1 cup of boiling water
-oil for frying
-Sugar for the coating
-Cinnamon for the coating
Bring a bowl and add the flour , baking powder , salt , oil and water until it has a thick texture. Then, you'll put the batter in a piping bag and start pipping the batter into the frying oil in a pan and leave it until it is golden and crispy. After that, mix the sugar with some cinnamon and roll the churros in it , melt some chocolate and by that your dip is ready and all the dessert is ready to be served.
Bon Provecho!
