Holy Moly We Have Cannelloni
This dish that I'll be talking about is very special and I do cherish it so much. I think that I have a thing for Italian food or Italians make some food that is irresistible. How come can a cylinder shaped food be so delicious like that?. Yes, I'll be talking about the famous "Cannelloni".
Cannelloni is an Italian dish which is a cylinder shaped lasagna that is stuffed with the filling and can be baked in the oven with its special sauce. It has many fillings but the most popular are with the minced beef or spinach ricotta.
Don't you find that Cannelloni is such a weird name and what does it mean?. Well, Cannelloni came from a Latin word that means "Reeds" and then, it evolved into the Italian word which is "Cannello" that means "Tube" and because it looks like a cylinder so, they decided to name it Cannelloni.
There isn't any dish without some interesting stories or facts that makes us laugh or confused. It is said that Cannelloni is considered a poor dish as it was made from the leftovers of the food that was made at Christmas as it can contain some chicken bits or wing tips or even some vegetables.
People can get really confused between Cannelloni and Manicotti because both of them are similar to each other but, there's a difference between them both. Manicotti has some thicker and larger tubes and even the tubes can be crepe instead but the Cannelloni tubes are smoother and baked in the oven.
Because we are Egyptians and like to put our touch in every dish in the world, we mixed between the two dishes and made the Cannelloni so, let me tell you the delicious recipe. All you need is:
-For the crepes:
-6 eggs
-half teaspoon of salt
-2 cups and a half of flour
-3 cups of water
-For the meat:
-2 tablespoons of olive oil
-1 clove garlic bread
-half a pound of ground beef
-2 cups of water
-1 teaspoon of oregano
-1 teaspoon of basil
-half a teaspoon of salt
-2 and a third cup of tomato puree
First, we start putting the meat in a pot with the oil, the minced garlic until it has a brown color then, add the tomato puree, water, oregano, basil and salt until it has a thick texture. After that we start preparing the crepes by mixing all the ingredients together and then start putting some of the mixture in a frying pan but it is not necessary to have a brown color.
We start preparing the crepe and put some of the beef with the sauce inside the crepe then we roll them together and place it in a Pyrex and spread some sauce and mozzarella on the top of them and then we place it in the oven for 20 mins and after that it is ready to be served.
